Who Is Kimberly Keenum? Meet the Wife Behind the NFL’s Most Resilient Quarterback
,

On Monday night, Case Keenum walked off the field at Soldier Field after his first NFL start in nearly three years. When he found his wife Kimberly in the stands, the moment said everything the box score couldn’t.

For a quarterback who has spent his career being counted out, being too short, having too weak an arm, being undrafted, being traded, being benched, that brief connection with the woman who has been there through all of it mattered more than any stat line.

“He’s been here the whole ride,” Keenum said after the game, tears in his eyes. “I wouldn’t be here without her either.”

So who is the woman behind one of the NFL’s most improbable survivors? The answer starts with a snow cone in Abilene, Texas, and spans more than two decades of faith, football, and unwavering loyalty.

A Love Story That Started With a Snow Cone

Case Keenum and Kimberly Caddell met during a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event in their hometown of Abilene, Texas, when they were in high school. They attended different schools and were a grade apart, but Case had noticed her.

One of his friends worked at a snow cone stand, and Case saw his opening.

“He asked me to go get a snow cone with him,” Kimberly recalled in an interview with Vikings.com. “That’s kind of where our story started. It really started with a snow cone.”

The connection went deeper than that first date, though. Kimberly’s family attended the same church as the Keenums. Case’s mother had actually taught Kimberly in elementary school. And Kimberly, a volleyball player and pole vaulter from a football-mad family, had spent plenty of Friday nights watching the game.

She just never imagined she’d end up living it.

The Moment That Proved It Was Real

The couple’s relationship was tested early. During Case’s college career at the University of Houston, he suffered a serious knee injury. It was Kimberly who moved him into her garage apartment, dressed him, fed him, and helped him through recovery.

“I realized how much she loved me,” Case later said. “She showed it. I don’t think I could have gotten that from anybody else.”

That experience set the tone for everything that followed. When Case went undrafted and bounced between practice squads, she was there. When he was waived by the Texans, signed by the Rams, traded back to the Texans, then back to the Rams again, she was there. When the Rams moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles and then he signed with Minnesota as a backup, she was there.

And when he took the Vikings on that miraculous run to the NFC Championship Game in 2017, she was in the stands, watching with her brothers, jaws on the floor after the Minneapolis Miracle.

The NFL Wife Who Actually Knows the Playbook

Kimberly Keenum isn’t the kind of football wife who just shows up on Sundays. She studies the game.

During the 2016 season, HBO’s “Hard Knocks” featured the Keenums while Case was with the Rams. In one memorable scene, Kimberly explained that she helps her husband study by reading plays aloud to him.

“It’s fun for me to learn the plays too and hear what he’s actually saying in the huddle,” she said on the show.

Case has confirmed that her help was more than just moral support. “I needed some help early on, so she would help read off plays,” he said. “I was hearing it, understanding it, studying it that way.”

That level of involvement made her something of a mentor to other players’ wives, helping them understand the intricacies of the game and what their husbands were experiencing.

Faith, Infertility, and Two Little Miracles

The foundation of the Keenums’ marriage is their shared Christian faith. Kimberly’s involvement with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes dates back to seventh grade, and she has spoken openly about how that shaped her life.

“I felt like it was a way that I was able to share my faith through sports, and it gave me a great platform,” she said. “Everything we’ve been through, God has always been there in our lives.”

That faith was tested in ways that went beyond football. The couple struggled with infertility before eventually welcoming two children, Kyler and Cadence. In a 2025 interview, Case described their focus as being “great husband and wife, a great couple, but also great parents and disciple-makers in our own home.”

The family was on full display at Soldier Field on Monday night. Photos from the game showed Kimberly sitting with Kyler and Cadence, watching their father do something no one expected him to do at 38 years old.

What She Means to Him

Case Keenum has never been shy about where his wife ranks in his life.

After the Minneapolis Miracle in 2018, a 61-yard walk-off touchdown that sent the Vikings to the NFC Championship Game, Keenum was asked to put the moment in perspective. His answer became famous.

“It’s probably going to go down as the third best moment of my life behind giving my life to Jesus Christ and marrying my wife,” he said. “And this was right there, close.”

That wasn’t a rehearsed line. It’s who he is.

The Keenums married in June 2011 in a private ceremony in Abilene. Fifteen years, multiple NFL cities, two children, and countless ups and downs later, the partnership remains the constant.

The Bottom Line

Kimberly Keenum isn’t a celebrity. Her Instagram is private. She doesn’t give many interviews. She prefers to stay out of the limelight that her husband’s job sometimes brings.

But when Case Keenum took the field on Monday night for his first start in nearly three years, and then found her in the crowd afterward, the reason for his longevity was clear. It wasn’t just arm talent or football IQ or the resilience of an undrafted quarterback who refused to quit.

It was the woman who started it all with a snow cone, who learned his playbook so she could help him study, who nursed him through injury, who prayed with him through infertility, and who has been standing in the same spot in the stands for every chapter of a career that nobody saw coming.

“I love my family, my wife Kimberly,” Keenum said. “She’s been here the whole ride.”

That ride isn’t over yet.
