Before Michelle Beisner-Buck became one of ESPN’s most recognizable features reporters, she was wearing boots and chaps on the sidelines for the Denver Broncos.
The wife of legendary broadcaster Joe Buck isn’t just known for being his spouse. She built her own impressive career in sports media, and her journey from NFL cheerleader to Emmy-winning storyteller is a story worth telling.
Here’s everything you need to know about Michelle Beisner-Buck, the woman who stole Joe Buck’s heart after he famously had to “stalk” her just to get a first date.
Who Is Michelle Beisner-Buck?
Michelle Beisner-Buck is a former NFL cheerleader, dancer, actress, and current ESPN reporter who covers features for Monday Night Football and Monday Night Countdown.
Born on October 15, 1976, in Denver, Colorado, she has been married to Joe Buck since April 12, 2014.
The couple shares twin sons, Wyatt Joseph and Blake Andrew, born on April 26, 2018, one day after Joe’s 49th birthday.
From Broncos Cheerleader to Sports Broadcaster
Michelle’s path to sports media started on the sidelines. She spent six years as a Denver Broncos cheerleader, serving as squad captain for four of those years.
She was a Pro Bowl representative for the team in 1999 and traveled the world performing and teaching dance, including USO tours in Iraq and Africa.
Her career evolved from there. Before joining ESPN, she worked as a pit reporter for the Champ Car World Series, hosted shows on the Speed Channel, and served as a field reporter for The Best Damn Sports Show. She also hosted NFL Weekly Countdown and NFL Network Now during her time at NFL Network.
Michelle even appeared in the 1999 football film Any Given Sunday, putting her dance and acting training to use.
She joined ESPN in 2014, eight years before her husband made the same move.
The Unlikely Love Story
Joe and Michelle’s relationship didn’t start with love at first sight. In fact, it started with Michelle thinking Joe was, in his own words, a “smug a–hole.”
“She saw me on a national car rental commercial and thought I looked like a smug a–hole,” Joe admitted on The Pivot podcast. “And now looking back on it, I think I did look like a smug a–hole.”
They met at Mile High Stadium in Denver while Michelle was working for NFL Network. Joe spotted her and told a friend, “I think I’m gonna stalk that person.”
Mutual friend and fellow broadcaster Rich Eisen played matchmaker, but Michelle was initially resistant. When Eisen told her someone in the business wanted her number, her response was blunt: “Please don’t tell me it’s Joe Buck.”
Despite the rocky start, they met for dinner in St. Louis. Joe knew almost immediately she was the one.
“I swear to God I knew before the appetizers were put down that I was going to marry her,” he said. “She just was different, and it was the greatest decision I have made as an adult.”
A Blended Family
Joe Buck was married to Ann Archambault from 1993 to 2011, and they share two daughters: Natalie and Trudy.
Natalie has followed her father into the entertainment industry, appearing in shows like Blue Bloods and Superstore.
After his divorce, Joe wasn’t sure he wanted to marry again. Michelle changed that.
“She kind of reopened my eyes to getting married after being married for 19 years the first time around,” he said. “It’s probably the last thing I thought I was going to do again and the first thing I’m glad I did do again.”
The couple welcomed their twin sons in 2018 after Michelle underwent three rounds of IVF treatment.
The Golf Course Incident
The Bucks made headlines in 2024 after a freak accident that could have been far worse.
While on a golf course in Cabo San Lucas, Michelle did a headstand on the tee box for good luck. At the exact moment Joe was swinging, she decided to do the splits, dropping her right leg directly into his line of fire.
“I hit the golf ball into the inside of her right ankle and shattered it,” Joe explained in a video posted to social media.
Michelle required surgery and spent months recovering. She later joked about getting back to “the things that I love to do, like headstands.”
Professional Respect
Michelle is highly regarded at ESPN for her feature storytelling. Her portfolio includes conversations with Tony Romo, a touching portrait of former Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still and his daughter Leah’s battle with cancer, and a piece on late NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer.
When Joe joined ESPN in 2022, it made them official coworkers, though Michelle had been there first.
“She’s the one who’s been at ESPN longer,” Joe has noted.
The Bottom Line
Michelle Beisner-Buck is far more than “Joe Buck’s wife.” She’s a former NFL cheerleader, a seasoned broadcaster, a mother of twins, and a stepmother who has embraced her blended family.
And for Joe Buck, she’s the woman who made him believe in marriage again after he thought that chapter of his life was closed.
“I wore her down,” Joe joked about their early days. “And I just couldn’t give up.”
