Gypsy Rose Blanchard Dating History: From Nicholas Godejohn to Ken Urker and Ryan Anderson

Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s love life has been as complicated and closely watched as her criminal case. From the boyfriend who helped her kill her mother to a prison marriage and an on-and-off romance that produced a child, her dating history tracks the major chapters of her life.

Blanchard’s relationships have played out in documentaries, reality television, and tabloid headlines for more than a decade. Understanding who she dated, and how each relationship ended, offers a clearer picture of a woman whose romantic choices have been shaped by isolation, incarceration, and sudden freedom.

Nicholas Godejohn: The Boyfriend Behind the Murder

Blanchard’s first significant relationship began in 2012 when she met Nicholas Godejohn on a Christian dating website while living with her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. The two carried on a secret online relationship for more than two years, exchanging messages about their future together, including potential baby names.

They met in person for the first time in March 2015. Three months later, in June 2015, Godejohn traveled to the Blanchard home near Springfield, Missouri, and stabbed Dee Dee Blanchard 17 times while Gypsy hid in the bathroom and covered her ears.

Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 25 years for armed criminal action. He is held at the Potosi Correctional Center in Mineral Point, Missouri.

The relationship ended after their arrest. Godejohn later described the time with Blanchard as “the best days of my life” in a 2019 Oxygen special, saying he believed they were soulmates.

Ken Urker: The Prison Pen Pal Who Became a Father

Ken Urker first contacted Blanchard in 2017 after watching the HBO documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest. He sent a letter of support while she was incarcerated at the Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri.

The correspondence quickly turned romantic. Blanchard later recalled that they spent hours on the phone and that the connection felt immediate. “I talked to him like I had known him my whole life and vice versa,” she said.

Urker proposed during a prison visit in October 2018 with a silver band that Blanchard later said was confiscated by prison guards. The engagement ended in 2019, with Urker later saying the breakup was influenced by outside voices, including a Dr. Phil podcast that encouraged him to give Blanchard space to build her own identity.

The two maintained some form of contact over the years. After Blanchard’s release from prison in December 2023, she reconnected with Urker following her separation from Ryan Anderson in March 2024.

Blanchard confirmed their rekindled relationship in April 2024, telling TMZ, “We have a history that made for the perfect foundation for a new beginning”.

In July 2024, Blanchard announced she was pregnant with Urker’s child. Their daughter, Aurora Raina Urker, was born on December 28, 2024, exactly one year after Blanchard’s release from prison.

The couple split again in late 2026, reportedly over legal complications regarding paternity laws related to Blanchard’s divorce from Anderson. Urker died on October 1, 2026, his 33rd birthday, at his Louisiana home.

Ryan Anderson: The Prison Marriage

Blanchard met Ryan Scott Anderson, a special education teacher from Louisiana, through prison correspondence. He sent her a letter in 2020, and their correspondence continued from there.

The two met in person for the first time in June 2021. They married in a small prison ceremony on July 21, 2022, at the Chillicothe Correctional Center, with no guests present.

Anderson picked Blanchard up when she was released from prison on December 28, 2023. Their life together outside prison was short-lived, however. Blanchard announced their separation in March 2024, just three months after her release, and filed for divorce the following month.

During the first season of Life After Lock Up, Blanchard admitted to Anderson that she had spoken to Urker three weeks before their wedding. Anderson said at the time, “It’s one of those things where it’s like, ‘Do I worry that she’ll leave me for him?’ I do feel second fiddle”.

The divorce was finalized in December 2024, legally ending their roughly two-year marriage.

The Pattern Behind the Relationships

Blanchard’s dating history reflects the unusual circumstances of her life. Her first relationship with Godejohn was forged entirely online, a secret connection that became the catalyst for her mother’s murder. Her marriage to Anderson began as prison correspondence and ended almost immediately upon her release.

Her relationship with Urker was the most enduring, spanning nearly a decade and producing a child. It was also the most public, documented across reality television and social media.

For a woman who spent her childhood isolated from the outside world and her early adulthood behind bars, each relationship represented a different attempt at connection. None followed a conventional path, and all were shaped by the extraordinary constraints of her circumstances.
