Dom Dolla’s historic hometown show at Marvel Stadium descended into chaos on Thursday night when a front-of-house speaker stack failed mid-set, leaving sections of the 60,000-strong crowd without sound for up to 30 minutes. The Australian DJ, legally Dominic Matheson, was performing the biggest headline electronic music event ever staged in Australia when the technical fault struck with roughly an hour of the show remaining.

The sold-out concert on September 24 was the world premiere of Dom Dolla’s new stadium production and marked his first headline show at Marvel Stadium, following his record-breaking Allianz Stadium debut in Sydney last December. Almost 60,000 fans packed the Docklands venue, with the DJ telling followers beforehand that it “feels so damn good to be home.”
The trouble began when a front-of-house speaker on the left side of the stadium seemingly malfunctioned, causing the audio to drop out for sections of the crowd. Social media footage showed the moment the sound cut, with one video captioned: “People leaving Dom Dolla early because the speakers on the left side blew up.”
The bass disappeared entirely for approximately 20 minutes, according to The Guardian’s reviewer, with some reports suggesting the audio issues lasted closer to 30 minutes. For an electronic dance music set built on relentless bass and rhythm, the silence was particularly jarring.
How did fans react?
The reaction was mixed. Some fans expressed frustration and disappointment, with several leaving the venue early and others calling for refunds online. “Girl it was cooked I didn’t even know Sandstorm was playing,” one fan wrote. Another added: “I was on the side it blew and half the people cracked it and left.”
But many concertgoers rallied behind Dom Dolla and his technical team. “Shoutout to the team who fixed this asap, that would’ve been so stressful,” one fan wrote alongside footage of the speaker failure. Others praised the overall experience despite the setback. “Yes there was a complete blow out of the left hand front of house speaker stack for about 30 minutes but that still didn’t dampen the evening,” one attendee commented.

Dom Dolla performed his biggest releases, with Clementine Douglas making a surprise appearance for “Miracle Maker,” while Chicago house pioneer Green Velvet, Torren Foot, and RONA. b2b DJ JNETT handled support duties.
Promoter Untitled Group’s co-founder Nicholas Greco called it “one of the biggest headline electronic music events ever staged in Australia” and a milestone for the genre’s growth locally. The show came just hours after Dom Dolla received four ARIA Award nominations, including Best Australian Live Act and Best Dance/Electronic Release.
The 60,000-capacity sellout also underscored Australia’s status as the world’s third-largest streaming market for EDM, with Australian dance music now the country’s most popular genre internationally on Spotify.
What’s next for Dom Dolla?
The Melbourne show kicks off an intense run of global dates. Dom Dolla will headline New York’s Flushing Meadows Corona Park on October 3, followed by shows in the Bay Area, Nashville, Chicago, Houston, Singapore, and Auckland in February 2027. He has also teased a new production that has been “months in the making” and is giving away double passes to fans across seven cities via an Instagram giveaway.
