LOS ANGELES — On screen, they were one of daytime television’s hottest couples. Off screen, they couldn’t stand the sight of each other. The feud between Robert Kelker-Kelly and Lisa Rinna, which simmered for three decades before exploding into public view in early 2026, remains one of the most bitter costar conflicts in soap opera history.
When Kelker-Kelly died on October 3, 2026, at age 62, the complicated legacy of his time on Days of Our Lives resurfaced once again, including the explosive allegations Rinna made in her memoir just months earlier.
The On-Screen Romance That Fooled Millions
Robert Kelker-Kelly joined Days of Our Lives in 1992 as Bo Brady, taking over the iconic role from Peter Reckell. That same year, Lisa Rinna made her debut as Billie Reed, a character who quickly became Bo’s love interest.
Their chemistry was undeniable. The pair won the Soap Opera Digest Award for Hottest Soap Couple in 1995, and fans believed they were watching genuine romantic tension play out on screen.
It was all an act. A very, very good one.
What Lisa Rinna Alleged in Her Memoir
In her February 2026 memoir, You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It, Rinna finally told her side of the story. She didn’t hold back.
“Behind the scenes, we hated each other,” she wrote.
Rinna claimed Kelker-Kelly “made my life a living hell on the set of Days” and described him as “horrible to me.” She went further, alleging he was “verbally abusive” and “passive-aggressive, manipulative and played weird mind games”.
“If I didn’t do what he wanted, he’d give me the silent treatment,” she alleged. “He was a ticking time bomb. I never knew when I arrived on set each morning if I’d get nice Robert Kelker-Kelly or dark Robert Kelker-Kelly. He was unpredictable and it was exhausting”.
The Comparison That Made Headlines
Rinna knew exactly how to make her allegation stick. She invoked one of the most famous insults ever aimed at her—the moment Kathy Hilton called her “the biggest bully in Hollywood” during a Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion.
“Not true. Not even close!” Rinna wrote. “I have legit stories about the real bullies in this town. Robert Kelker-Kelly is one of those bullies”.
The Security Detail Claim
Perhaps the most shocking allegation in Rinna’s memoir involved what happened when Kelker-Kelly abruptly left the show in 1995.
“Suddenly, one day, he disappeared from the Days set,” she wrote. “Next thing I knew Kristian and I had our own full-time security detail”.
Rinna claimed that she and costar Kristian Alfonso, who played Bo’s other love interest Hope Brady, were given round-the-clock protection for three weeks. Rent-a-cops were parked outside their homes and trailers, and they were driven to and from work.
“I wasn’t worried about physical harm, but NBC had to cover their ass,” she wrote.
The Silent Treatment and the Love Scenes
Rinna also detailed the awkwardness of filming intimate scenes with a man she openly despised. The two shot love scenes “every day, often half-naked,” she wrote, and she claimed Kelker-Kelly would punish her with silence if she didn’t comply with his wishes on set.
“My theory is he was attracted to me, and when I wasn’t available to him, it made him snap,” Rinna wrote.
She added that she regretted not standing up to him. “I was too young, and I was not willing to make waves at my awesome new job,” she wrote. “If Robert Kelker-Kelly was in my Housewives orbit today, he never would have gotten away with his behavior”.
This Wasn’t the First Time Rinna Spoke Out
The memoir wasn’t Rinna’s first public shot at Kelker-Kelly. In a 2015 interview with Bravo, she was blunt about her feelings.
“I hated Robert Kelker-Kelly; hated him with a passion!” she said. “He hated me with a passion. We were a volatile combination, and it looked like love and sexual chemistry on camera, so that was some darn good acting right there”.
Kelker-Kelly’s Silence
Robert Kelker-Kelly never publicly responded to any of Rinna’s allegations. Not when the memoir excerpts made headlines in February 2026, and not in the months that followed.
He had left Hollywood behind long ago, trading the soundstage for the cockpit of private jets and a quiet life as a flight instructor in Missouri. The allegations arrived in the final year of his life, and he chose not to engage.
The Complicated Legacy
Robert Kelker-Kelly and Lisa Rinna played one of the most beloved couples in Days of Our Lives history. They won awards for it. Fans rooted for them. And according to Rinna, every moment of that on-screen romance was torture.
The feud, now permanently etched into soap opera lore, remains a stark reminder that what audiences see on television is often a carefully constructed illusion. In this case, the illusion was remarkable. The reality, according to Rinna, was a nightmare.
Kelker-Kelly died without ever addressing her claims. Whether that silence was dignity, indifference, or something else, the public will never know. The only certainty is that the on-screen love story of Bo and Billie will forever be shadowed by the off-screen hatred between the actors who brought them to life.
