Teddy Swims has built a career on baring his soul through music, but his latest chapter is hitting closer to home than any song he has ever written. The Grammy-nominated singer and his partner, Raiche Wright, have called it quits after welcoming their first child together, and Swims is channeling that heartbreak directly into his art.
The 33-year-old “Lose Control” hitmaker confirmed the split in July 2026 alongside the release of his emotionally raw single “Break Up in Reverse,” marking the end of a relationship that began quietly in 2024 and produced a son just one year later.
Who Is Raiche Wright?
Raiche Wright is a singer in her own right, hailing from Massachusetts and based in Atlanta. She began singing as a child and turned professional in 2019 with her debut EP, Drive, followed by a full album, Loveland, in 2023. Her musical career is what initially bonded her with Swims, who has repeatedly praised her work ethic.
“She does what I do, which is great,” Swims said during a July 2024 appearance on The Kyle & Jackie O Show. “Because it’s like maybe 3 a.m. and I’m calling her and she’s like ‘Yeah, yeah I’m in a session. I’m recording vocals.’ And I’m like, ‘Girl, yeah, handle your business, baby.’”
How They Met and Started Dating
The couple’s origin story is as unconventional as it is charming. Swims revealed in a January 2025 BBC interview that he and Wright first met “a couple of Thanksgivings ago” when she attended one of his shows. Their paths crossed again at a Grammys pre-party in February 2024, where they were first photographed together.
By May 2024, Wright had joined Swims on tour, and the two even performed duets together on stage. Swims publicly confirmed their relationship in July 2024, telling the Kyle & Jackie O Show how much he valued having a partner who understood the demands of the music industry.
The relationship moved quickly. In January 2025, the couple announced they were expecting their first child together with a joint Instagram post featuring photos of Wright’s baby bump and the caption, “We can’t wait to meet you baby.”
A Baby Boy and a Growing Bond
Their son was born on June 23, 2025. The couple announced his arrival on Instagram with a photo of their hands beside their sleeping newborn and the simple caption, “6.23.25 We love you lil man.” They have not publicly disclosed his name.
Swims has been openly effusive about fatherhood, telling People in November 2025 that watching his son smile was “something so incredible” and describing the moment he walked into a room and his baby recognized him. He also praised Wright’s transition into motherhood, saying, “There’s nothing cooler than watching her be just everything that in some ways she was always meant to be.”
He also spoke candidly about preparing to raise a biracial child as a white father, acknowledging that Wright, who is mixed race, would be better equipped to guide their son through those experiences. “I’m just their white daddy,” he joked during an appearance on Club Shay Shay.
The Split: Confirmed Through Music
Rumors of trouble began circulating in April 2026 when Swims told reporters at a Stagecoach Q&A, “I’m going through a bit of a situation with my baby mother, a little heartbreak going on.” He added that he was still “in a good place,” largely because of his son.
But the official confirmation came on July 10, 2026, with the release of “Break Up in Reverse.” In a press release accompanying the song, Swims was direct: “Upon writing this song and my next album, I’ve been going through it with my relationship with my baby’s mother coming to an end.”
The song’s concept was inspired by Nas’s 2001 track “Rewind,” which plays in reverse. Swims explained, “We loved how the whole song takes place in reverse. So we thought, how beautiful would it be if we took the same idea but wrote it about my relationship.” The lyrics find him wishing he could undo the breakup: “I wish we could break up in reverse / Every night would get better instead of getting worse / I’d watch you slowly slip back into my hands / Say goodbye to me in the beginning / And love me in the end.”
The music video mirrors the theme, showing Swims in a wrecked room that slowly reassembles itself as the footage plays in reverse.
Wright’s Response
Wright has also spoken publicly about the split, sharing the emotional toll of co-parenting a young child. In a July 2026 Instagram Story, she wrote, “The thought of having to split time with my baby 50/50 has been the hardest reality I’ve ever had to face. When I dreamed of becoming a mother and having children, I never imagined this would be my reality. My heart hurts, and my stomach is in constant knots.”
What’s Next for Teddy Swims
Swims, whose real name is Jaten Dimsdale, has been clear that his son remains his priority. He has described the baby as “the sweetest kid in the world” and said he intends to remain an active presence in his life.
Professionally, “Break Up in Reverse” is the first taste of a new album in progress. Swims told fans at Stagecoach that “it’s gonna be rock and roll” despite the heartbreak, and he has leaned on his son to stay grounded through the transition.
The singer, who scored a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with “Lose Control” in 2023 and earned Grammy nominations in both 2025 and 2026, has always turned pain into powerful music. This chapter is no different. As he put it himself, “It really hits home for me right now and where I am in my life.”
For fans who have followed Swims from viral covers to arena stages, the honesty is painful but familiar. He has never hidden behind his music, and he isn’t starting now.
